Tigers lose despite Mustafiz five-for

Speedster Mustafizur Rahman bagged five wickets, but New Zealand bowlers ended the Tigers' innings on 70 to net a 75-run win in the World T20 on Saturday.

Chasing 146, Bangladesh lost opener Tamim Iqbal on four as a direct throw from Colin Munro caught him short while making a quick single and the disaster began. Mohammad Mithun (11) and Sabbir Rahman (12) then added 25, but from then onwards it was only about the Kiwi bowlers.

The Tigers batsmen were easily tamed as both Grant Elliott and Ish Sodhi grabbed three wickets to condemn Bangladesh to one of their worst defeats in the T20s.

Shuvagata Hom was their highest scorer, making an beaten 16 off 17. Nathan McCullum and Mitchell Santner pickted one wicket apiece.

But, it was not so bleak for the Tigers early in the match, as Bangladesh restrcited New Zealand to 145 for 8 thanks to a certain Mustafizur Rahman.

The left-handed sensation picked both the openers and then mopped the Kiwi lower order as they lost four wickets in the space of 17 runs. The fact that four of the five wickets came when he uprooted the stumps reveals how deadly the wizard was on the day.

It was the tournament's best bowling figure and also the first time a bowler bagged a five-wicket haul in this edition of World T20.

Kiwis skipper Kane Williamson was the top-scorer, with a 42 off 32 deliveries, while Colin Munro hit 35 in 35 balls to help their team a decent score. Ross Taylor's 24-ball 28 also looks vital as none of the other batsmen could reach double figures.

Mustafiz was duly supported by Al-Amin Hossain who bagged a brace while the Tigers also did some brilliant fielding, as Shuvagata Hom and Mohammad Mithun took two fantastic catches.

The loss means Bangladesh return home without a single win in the Super 10s, while New Zealand, who were the first to qualify for the semi-finals, won four in four.
